Gender Affirming Hormone & Surgical Readiness Assessments
Angela is a Qualified Assessor for gender affirming puberty blocker/hormone readiness and surgical readiness assessments for Yukon residents.
As a strong LGBTQ+ ally, she has supported many individuals through exploring early gender identity questions to qualifying for gender affirming surgeries. Angela has had the great benefit of being mentored by psychiatrists, psychologists, and physicians as part of the BC Transgender Health care group and as a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.
The cost of assessments for all puberty blocker assessments, some hormone assessments, and all gender affirming surgery assessments is covered by Yukon Insured Health Services. Coverage of assessment fees requires a physician/nurse practitioner referral.
All assessments are in keeping with the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) principles and Standards of Care.
Gender assessment in young children:
Although no formal diagnosis or medical treatments are generally required in young children. Children who are experiencing gender questioning or dysphoria may benefit from consultation or therapy along with their parents. This is always done through the lens of support and planning for future development and needs.
Pre-pubertal children may benefit from assessment regarding potential readiness for puberty blockers.
The World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) recommends mental health support for individuals engaged in gender transitioning.
